Summer Opportunities for Students

The Summer STEM Institute (SSI) is a six-week virtual summer program for high school students. The program was started last summer by educators, students, and graduates from Stanford, Harvard, and MIT. Last year, SSI received over 2,450 applications from students in 78 different countries. It runs June 20 – August 1. More info: https://www.summersteminstitute.org/.

Juniors and Seniors who love math – here’s a cool opportunity for you! The MathWorks Math Modeling Challenge is an Internet-based experience to see what it’s like to work as a team to tackle a real-world problem under time and resource constraints. Contest runs February 26 – March 1. See your Math teacher for information. Deadline for registration is 2/26/21.

Attention Sophomores and Juniors interested in a career in healthcare: Deaconess Health System sponsors the Health Science Institute June 6-19, 2021 (daytime only due to COVID-19). Attention Juniors: Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky is hosting the Commonwealth Honors Academy, a three-week challenging enrichment program on campus in June 2021. Requirements: 3.5+ GPA, ACT composite score of 25+ (or equivalent on PSAT), and community involvement. You earn six hours of college credit, have a chance to earn more college credit, and qualify for scholarship money. Deadline is 3/1/2021.
