Apply

In order to attract informed applicants who are committed to New Tech Institute and its philosophy, all parents and students who desire to enroll at New Tech are encouraged to attend a Parent Information Meeting and submit a completed application. We also encourage prospective students to visit New Tech one day for a “shadow” opportunity. New Tech is not for all students. It is important to assess each student's proper fit for any innovative school model…including ours.

Students who are interested in joining New Tech should complete a solid 8th grade curriculum including an English class consisting of literature and composition and Algebra or Pre-Algebra course that prepares them to enter high school ready for Algebra I or Honors Geometry.

Also due to the nature of resources and services available at New Tech, students with an IEP or 504 plan may need to have a case conference or 504 meeting to ensure New Tech has the resources necessary to meet appropriate needs.

Students who are accepted and commit to attending New Tech are making at least a one-semester commitment to attend.

A 200-300 word short essay is required as part of the application. Please be prepared to answer the following prompt:

Working with technology requires high levels of self-discipline in order to be productive in this learning environment. Please include a 200-300 word essay explaining why you have chosen the EVSC New Tech Institute (improvement in self-discipline? growth in leadership ability? overcome a fear of public speaking?) and include examples of how you have worked well with others. Recommendation: Write your essay in a word processing program and then copy and paste it into this essay box.

In order to ensure equity, fairness, and consistency with the policy of gender balance, New Tech students will be selected by lottery at the end of the enrollment period. The procedure for the lottery will be as follows...

• Only students whose completed applications were received prior to the end of open enrollment and who meet the admissions requirements will be included in the lottery.
• The lottery will be overseen by a District administrator.
• Lottery selection will continue until 75 applicants have been chosen. The 76th student selected (and beyond) will be placed on a waiting list in the order they are drawn. This waiting list will stay in force throughout the student’s first two years in high school unless the parent requests that their name be removed.

Wait list students will be notified by phone if a seat becomes available. Should they choose not to take the seat, their name will be removed from the wait list. The next student on the wait list will be called until all of the seats are filled.

There is no need call the school office for lottery results. The list of students selected in the lottery will be notified in early January. Letters will also be sent home notifying applicants of their status.

Students may continue to apply directly at New Tech after the open enrollment period and will be accepted or placed at the bottom of the wait list.

Once accepted, any student wishing to return to their district high school may do so at the end of the semester.

Admission to New Tech Institute shall be open to all students on a nondiscriminatory basis, without regard to race, color, national origin, creed, gender, ethnicity, ancestry, disability or academic achievement, in accordance with the admission policy outlined above. New Tech Institute shall be nonsectarian and shall not charge tuition for admission to the school.

Typically all grades at New Tech are full to capacity. However, openings are available on occasion. Applications will be accepted on a space-available basis. Students who apply for admittance to New Tech for grades 10, 11, and 12 will go on a waiting list. As openings occur over the summer and again at the semester break, prospective students will be notified in the order of the waiting list. Transfers of EVSC students into New Tech require a discussion with the student’s current school and the approval of District personnel.
